The Academy has finally seen to it that Gary Oldman receive an Academy Award Nomination.  His first ever Academy Award nomination was in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of George Smiley in the movie, “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Glad they heard our appeal.

Congrats Gary, at least one of us Movie Raiders thinks you deserve this (John).

Yes, Gary Oldman needs an Oscar…. But for Tinker Sleeper Poopy Sly?? Man, it has been a while since a film had me force to keep my eyes open to the point where I felt like Malcolm MacDowell in A Clockwork Orange. I believe it is the worst film in many years… I think one review said it best when it said, if the audience doesn’t even care who the mole is, its kinda pointless isn’t it? I’m glad Gary got the nom but this picture is simply garbage.

Kenzo, I can’t say Tinker Tailor was “great” but I actually enjoyed it. My challenge was they tried to fit so much story into one movie. The BBC mini-series starring Alec Guiness as Smiley was 6 hours long.

Oldman has probably suffered from politics in the past and is now benefitting from the politics of Hollywood in the present. He is the star of the Brit pack and now he is old enough where people are thinking of his legacy. I did enjoy his performance in this role. He really inhabits this character (as usual) and showed incredible restraint in this role. Of all his performances would I say this is the one that should get him the Oscar nom? No. But I am glad he is getting one.
