(1) “There’s a flip side to that coin”

This is a response to a a post where you have a differing point of view to what the author said. If you have a different view you simply say “There’s a flip side to that coin.” Example, John thinks that Tombstone was a better movie than Wyatt Earp (two movies about basically the same thing). Lutz feels differently so he writes a “There’s a flip side to that coin” post.

Below is a description of where we came up with that term for this.

In the movie “Heat” there is a scene where Pacino’s character (Vincent Hannah) sits down for coffee with DeNiro’s character (Neil Macauley). This is one of the greatest scenes ever shot. We (John and Lutz) agree on this.

Vincent Hanna: You know, we are sitting here, you and I, like a couple of regular fellas. You do what you do, and I do what I gotta do. And now that we’ve been face to face, if I’m there and I gotta put you away, I won’t like it. But I tell you, if it’s between you and some poor bastard whose wife you’re gonna turn into a widow, brother, you are going down.

Neil McCauley: There is a flip side to that coin. What if you do got me boxed in and I gotta put you down? Cause no matter what, you will not get in my way. We’ve been face to face, yeah. But I will not hesitate. Not for a second.

(2) “You’re gonna need a bigger boat”

This is a response to a post that “builds” on a previous post. Maybe there was something left out, or maybe you have an insight or connection that wasn’t made. Example – in a post about Navy SEALS someone focuses only on Charlie Sheen and Michael Beihn but leaves out all the great work that Bill Paxton did, in that situation you would write a “You’re gonna need a bigger boat” post.

Below is a description of where that came from.

Brody: You’re gonna need a bigger boat.

(3) Netflix Pick of the week

Each week Lutz and I will be writing a post on a “re-watch” recommendation.  The Netflix queue can seem dreary when you are looking for something that you have never seen before, however there are lots of great films in there and we are going recommend a re-watch.

As part of this we will include some color commentary in the post.  It may turn out that we turn out a few Netflix Picks that people haven’t seen, if so… all the better, but at worst we will help you make the most of your subscription.
